NAMAKKAL: More than 200 farmers blocked the traffic on the Namakkal Rasipuram road near Senthamangalam on Wednesday urging the district administration to carry out repair works on the stretch between Vandipet and Chinnapallam Parai. Farmers claimed that the 7-km stretch remained in bad shape for the past 15 days.
A large number of farmers, who were frequently using the stretch to transport their produce to the nearby markets, were put into hardship.
Despite repeated complaints, the panchayat administration had not initiated any action to take up the road repair works, they said.
They urged the district administration to undertake repair works immediately. Revenue officials pacified the agitators. Traffic on the road was affected for about two hours.
LPG cylinders seized
The district supply officials seized 32 domestic liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders which were found used for commercial purposes.
A team of officials raided restaurants, teashops and bars in Periya Manali, Thondipatti, Velagoundampatti, Singlipatti and Ernapuram areas and seized 32 domestic LPG cylinders.
They also seized 210 litres of diesel, which was found being sold in a shop in Velagoundampatti.
