Bid to smuggle precious stones foiled

CHENNAI: A team of the Chennai Customs Air Intelligence Unit at the Anna International Airport on Thursday foiled an air passenger’s bid to smuggle in precious-semi-precious stones worth Rs.20 lakh.

According to a press note, officials recovered six sealed polythene packets containing sapphire, yellow sapphire and ruby stones from Zakir Ali Khan (36), a native of Kolar in Karnataka, who arrived on a Thai Airways service from Bangkok. — Special Correspondent
