Manipal: The Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC), a constituent of Manipal University, is celebrating its decennial year.

According to a press release from the Director of the institute, Buroshiva Dasgupta, here on Thursday, the Hindustan Times recently ranked MIC as the third best media school in India. The year-long celebrations will begin with alumni meeting and 10th annual day celebration on November 16. As part of the decennial celebrations, the institute will be organising exhibitions, seminars, workshops, talks and other media-related activities throughout the year. Many dignitaries of media, cinema, sports, culture and other fields will be visiting the institute during the year, including Ambitabh Bachchan, the former Union Minister and journalist Arun Shourie, Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu N. Ram, and P.J. Mathews of Malayala Manorama.

Founded in 1997, the MIC is committed to excellence in the field of media education, and is producing media professionals, who can function efficiently in an increasingly challenging and diverse atmosphere.

Courses

The MIC started a two-year postgraduate degree course in communication in 1997. The institute expanded its courses to the undergraduate level in 2000 and hence the student strength has increased to over 250. Both these courses are designed to ensure that the students acquire competency in media skills and communication processes. The institute also offers Ph.D. in Communication.

The Chairman of Prasar Bharati, M.V. Kamath, who is also the Honorary Director of MIC, and the Pro-Chancellor of Manipal University, H.S. Ballal, will participate in the inaugural function of the decennial celebrations of MIC on November 16.
