Tuticorin: Lakhs of pilgrims witnessed `Soorasamharam’, conducted as part of the `Kandha Sashti’ festival at the Lord Subramaniaswamy Temple at Tiruchendur on Thursday. The ‘Soorasamharam’ began at around 5 p.m., with the idol of Jayanthinathar and those of demons were taken out in a procession from the temple to the beach, where the ritual was held. According to a legend, Lord Subramania killed Gajamughasooran, Singamughasooran and Soorapadman and saved mankind. The devotees chanted devotional songs. The Soorasamharam ended with a puja at the ‘Santhosha Mandapam’. Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment K.R.
