Chitradurga: What can be a better way of learning science than through experiments?

A five-day science exhibition has been organised by the Karnataka State Science and Technology Academy, in association with the Education Department and August Educational Foundation, Bangalore.

It has over 130 experiments on display at the Guru Bhavan. The exhibition which was inaugurated on November 12, is aimed at not only generating interest among schoolchildren about science and technology, but also at making them learn through experiments.

All the experiments which are being conducted here are part of the syllabus of high school subjects such as physics, biology and chemistry.

“We are finding it interesting and educative since most of the experiments are mentioned in our school syllabus. After seeing it, it will be easy for us to write the exams which may not happen by learning them only through theory classes,” said Anushya, a Class VIII student of St. Joseph’s school here. Several students had a similar opinion about the exhibition.

Parthasarathi, a representative of August Foundation which has provided the equipment, said that the Government is holding such exhibitions in all districts.

It has also planned to take a mobile laboratory to all government schools in the districts where practical sessions will be held.

He said that around 13 schools from the district had been contacted in order to select 10 students from each school who were trained to give information about the experiments to visiting students.

Every day, over 1,500 students are visiting the exhibition, Mr. Parthasarathi added.

He said that the exhibition was aimed at covering over 200 schools in the district.
