General council of natak akademi reconstituted

BHUBANESWAR: Bowing to pressure from the artistes’ fraternity, the Department of Culture reconstituted the general council of the Orissa Sangeet Natak Akademi, Orissa’s apex body for performing arts and an autonomous organisation, after a gap of six months.

The 32-member council comprises the president, the vice-president, the secretary and the treasurer of the akademi and the Commissioner and Director of the Department of Culture, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Director of Eastern Zonal Cultural Centre, Kolkata, under the Ministry of Culture and the Chief Executive of the State- owned Odissi Research Centre.

The skademi still remained headless as the appointment of its president was yet to be decided for reasons best known to the government.
