NCC cadets, officials take out rally to mark Vigilance Awareness Week

BERHAMPUR: A rally was taken out in the city on Thursday to celebrate the Vigilance Week and create public awareness against corruption.

NCC cadets, Scout wings of different schools of the city and officials of the southern range Vigilance Department took part in this rally.

Superintendent of Police of Berhampur vigilance range P.S. Ranpise and Berhampur SP Nitinjeet Singh also took part in the rally that was flagged off from M.K.C.G. Medical College campus ground.

The participants held placards urging people to help end corrupt practices. They shouted slogans ‘Durniti Hatao Desh Bachao’. Going through main roads of the city, the rally ended at the Khallikote Autonomous College Stadium.

A district-level function was also organised at the DRDA conference hall at Chatrapur in the afternoon. It was attended by Ganjam district Collector V.K. Pandian and Mr. Ranpise.

Students of schools and colleges who won various competitions held on the theme of vigilance week and anti-corruption drive were given away prizes at the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Ranpise urged the younger generation to come out and speak against corrupt practices. According to him, the prosecution rate of vigilance cases against officials was on the rise which proved that the public had started to stand up against corruption.

“The Vigilance Department will have more teeth and will become more active only when it gets ample help from the public to root out corruption,” said Mr. Pandian.
