Jaiswal is new Deputy Mayor

NEW DELHI: The BJP Councillor from Shahadra (North), Divya Kumar Jaiswal, was elected Deputy Mayor of Delhi on Tuesday. The election, held during the MCD House meeting, witnessed an unprecedented turnout of MPs and MLAs, especially those belonging to the Congress, in a show of solidarity. The MPs who exercised their right to vote included Kapil Sibal, J. P. Agarwal, Jagdish Tytler, Sandeep Dikshit and Sajjan Kumar of the Congress and Vijay Kumar Malhotra of the BJP.

In all, 263 votes were polled of which Mr. Jaiswal garnered 158, while his Congress opponent Tulsi Ram Sablania netted 101.
