BHOPAL: A large number of Congress workers led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Madhya Pradesh Assembly, Jamuna Devi, courted arrest here on Thursday during a protest demonstration seeking Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s resignation. The demand followed a directive by a special court to the Lokayukta Police to investigate a complaint of corruption. The Congress protesters were marching to the Chief Minister’s bungalow when they were arrested under Section 151 CrPC at Polytechnic Square. The Special Anti-Corruption Court here had on Tuesday ordered the Lokayukta Police Superintendent to investigate the complaint linked with purchase of four heavy vehicles (dumpers) by Mr. Chauhan’s wife Sadhana Singh and a cement factory at Rewa using them on contract basis. The State Congress spokesman, Manak Agrawal, told The Hindu that Congress workers were arrested across the State. Stir may be intensifiedHe said the Congress would intensify its agitation and force Mr. Chauhan to step down on moral grounds.
