BHOPAL: Munni Mangal Singh Yadav of the Congress was declared elected Chairperson of the Kolar Municipality on Thursday. She defeated her main rival, Mukul Bajpai of the BJP, by 3,186 votes. Ms. Yadav, who had the backing of Union Minister Suresh Pachouri, received 9,907 votes while the BJP candidate, supported by State Minister for Commercial Tax Babulal Gaur, got 6,721. The Bharatiya Janshakti candidate got 691 votes and the Samajwadi Party candidate 552. Till the time of filing this report, results were available for 18 municipal wards. BJP candidates were declared elected in eight of these wards, while there was a demand for re-election in the case of another BJP candidate, Mamta Pawar. Nine Congress candidates, along with one Independent candidate, were also declared elected. In Ward No. 12, Independent candidate Krishna Ram was leading. The winning candidates in different Kolar wards are Arti Borana (Ind), Amit Shukla, Kusum Sharma, Snehlata Shri, Rama Jain, Meenakshi Dixit, Ravindra Yati, and Dhanlal (all BJP), Rama Malviya, Bhairon Singh Yadav, Gayatri Sharma, Sangita Gurjar, Annu Sharma, Manjit Singh, Tulsiram Jatav, Omvati, and Rajesh Meena (all Congress).
