Number of vehicles, goods transported, freight charges to be studied Study also includes time wasted and unofficial money paid at ‘stoppages’
Welcome study: Officials of the Road Transport Department and volunteers from Bharat Scouts & Guides taking down relevant details from a lorry driver at the Bhoraj integrated check post near Adilabad as part of the State-wide Total Transport System Study. ADILABAD: Road transport in Andhra Pradesh seems to be destined for a major change in the future and these changes will be based on a scientific study of the traffic problems on the highways. StudyRail India Technology and Economic Services (RITES) is conducting a Total Transport System Study (TTSS) at 34 check post locations across the State on November 15 and 16 and for seven days at 10 other locations including Hyderabad and Vijayawada towards bringing out several facts related with transport. Variables“In Adilabad district our officials and volunteers from Bharat Scouts & Guides at Bhoraj integrated check post near Adilabad and Ranapur check post near Nirmal assess various factors associated with transport." " Details are gathered as per the relevant proforma with many variables that will help determine shape of transport in the future,” diclosed Deputy Transport Commissioner K. Rajeshwar Rao, who is also the nodal officer for Total Transport System Study. Freight chargesThe study is aimed at eliciting many things like number of vehicles and types that move on the road, vehicle operating cost and performance, kinds of goods being transported and freight charges in relation to distances covered, important places that vehicles cross while proceeding towards the destinations and so on. Surprisingly, the study also includes aspects like time wasted and unofficial money paid by lorry drivers at ‘stoppages’. Resource costsThis study is part of the programme to study all modes of transport like railways, highways, airways and shipping and is instituted by the Planning Commission of India.The programme as a whole envisages generating and analysing inter modal transport resource costs and determining optimal inter modal mix and allocation of transport investment to assist the planners in designing a transport vision for tomorrow. SurveyThe study also has provision for survey on inter regional and intra regional transport, relevant for future investment.
