PRODIGY: S.S.Kishan at the Children’s Film Festival at I-Max on Thursday. HYDERABAD: A fleeting and disturbing image of slum children on the streets resulted in a beautiful initiative on the celluloid. Why are these children of my age group on the footpaths instead of being either at home or classroom, nine-year-old S.S. Kishan started enquiring and that process culminated in the film ‘Care of Footpath’, which was screened at 15th International Children’s Film Festival here on Thursday. He not only acted in the 130 minute movie but also directed it with a maturity rarely seen among children of his age. Two years down the lane and basking in accolades at the festival, Master Kishan says, “every child has a right for education and that forms the plot for my film”. The Bangalore-based boy’s movie ran for more than 100 runs in Karnataka and registered success when released in Tamil too. “The Hindi version is almost ready and my film will soon be released in Telugu also,” he says. A success story of a street boy without an address and how doggedly he pursues his ambition of educating himself is tellingly portrayed. The movie cast among other includes Jackie Shroff and Sourabh Shukla, who did not charge any fee for their roles. The young actor-director is already working on another project which he says is going to be an out and out commercial movie. “The plot of the next movie is still a secret,” he says with an impish smile.
