CHENNAI: The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam on Thursday demanded that the Central Bureau of Investigation enquire into the recent seizure of rice at the Puducherry railway station.
In view of the involvement of more than one State, the party wanted a CBI enquiry, Jayalalithaa, general secretary, said in a statement.
Referring to the statement of the State Food Minister E.V. Velu that the rice was purchased in 2005, Ms Jayalalithaa termed it as unacceptable as it was established scientifically that rice could not be preserved for more than one year.
FCI confirmation
She contended that only a year ago, the company had taken two godowns on rent. She added that the Chennai office of the Food Corporation of India had confirmed that the seized rice was meant for the public distribution system in Tamil Nadu.
