Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P. Nedumaran, Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Vaiko and 260 others arrested on November 12 have filed an application before a magistrate court at Egmore seeking release on bail.

The leaders were arrested when they attempted to stage a rally to condole the death of Thamilchelvan, head of the LTTE’s ‘political division’. They were remanded to judicial custody till November 26. The petition, filed on their behalf by counsel G. Devadoss, G. Nanmaran and R. Priyakumar, said the petitioners were arrested by the Triplicane police for alleged offences under sections 13 (1) (2) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, sections 188 and 143 IPC and under the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act. They submitted that they did not commit any offence punishable under the law.
