Clear arrears due to ryots, mills told

CHENNAI: The State Government has advised private sugar mills to clear arrears due to farmers, Agriculture Minister Veerapandi S. Arumugam has said.

The amount due to cane farmers was Rs.102 crore and not Rs.250 crore as stated by All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa, the Minister said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Of the figure due to the farmers, only the sum of Rs.16.7 crore was outstanding for over 90 days, Mr. Arumugam said.
