Ministers to stay on for now
Special Correspondent
KOLKATA: A major crisis in the West Bengal government was averted — at least for now — with the State leadership of the Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), one of the constituents of the ruling Left Front, deciding that all its four representatives in the Cabinet will continue in their posts till the matter is taken up again at a meeting of the party’s State committee on November 29.
There was talk of the party’s representatives stepping down from office following PWD Minister Kshiti Goswami announcing his intention last week to resign from the Cabinet in protest against the State’s handling of the situation in Nandigram.
Another RSP Minister, Manohar Tirkey, Minister of State, PWD, had also expressed a similar intention.
“We did not arrive at any conclusive decision on the matter relating to the Ministers’ staying on in government and it will be taken up again at the State Committee meeting on November 29,” Manoj Bhattacharjee, member of the party’s State secretariat, told The Hindu here on Thursday.
