Peace rally in Kolkata

Kolkata: Braving stormy weather, prominent people and others took out a peace rally here on Thursday. It comes in the wake of the recent developments in Nandigram.
Actor Soumitra Chattopadhyay, film directors Mrinal Sen and Tarun Majumdar, painter Wasim Kapoor, footballers P.K. Banerjee and Chuni Goswami, magician P. C. Sorcar Jr, theatre artist Shobha Sen, writers Abul Bashar and Buddhadeb Guha, academics Jayantanuja Bandhopadhyay and Pabitra Sarkar, musician Buddhadeb Dasgupta and singer Ajit Pandey were among those who participated in the march.
The gathering expressed apprehension over the boycott of the ongoing Kolkata Film Festival by some artists and intellectuals, saying such forms of protest might give a cultural identity to terror.
