Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: A housewife of Koppa in Chikmagalur district, who is accused by the Bangalore police for being involved in a dacoity case, has moved the Karnataka High Court for her release on bail.
The petitioner, Hema alias Hemalatha, said she has been arrayed as the 10th accused by the Banaswadi police in the Chemmanur Jewellery dacoity case. She said the police had arrested her, saying that she had received the stolen ornaments and kept them in her house in Koppa.
According to the police records, Hema’s brother and several others had entered the jewellery showroom on Kammanahalli Main Road on August 11 at 10.45 a.m. They had threatened the employees and decamped with the gold jewels and other articles in all estimated at Rs. 3 crore.
The police claimed that they arrested Hema on September 5 and recovered 22 gold necklaces, 12 gold bracelets, 13 gold anklets, 27 gold chains, seven “Karimani” chains, 12 earrings, 14 gold pendants and 13 damaged gold ornaments apart from a mobile phone. All these articles were recovered from Hema’s house.
Hema said she is not involved in the crime.
She said her earlier application for bail was rejected by the Fast Track Court 3, Mayo Hall, Bangalore, on October 24, 2007. She urged the High Court to release her on bail.
Justice Subash B. Adi adjourned further hearing in the case.
