Metro train operator gets special award

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A Delhi Metro train operator, Kapil Anand, who has received appreciation for coming to the aid of passengers 11 times in the past, was presented a special award on Thursday for his 12th feat.

Commuter

Mr. Anand saved the life of a commuter who had jumped on to the track at Seelampur station on Tuesday.

The Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, E. Sreedharan, presented the award to Anand in recognition of his exemplary services.

Sajid, a 22-year-old commuter and a resident of Zafrabad in Seelampur area, had jumped on to the track just before the arrival of a metro train at the Seelampur station.

Anand, who was operating the train, noticed Sajid on the tracks and applied the special emergency brakes immediately.

Presence of mind

Owing to his presence of mind and quick response, he was able to stop the train about three to four metres away from Sajid.

His efforts were rewarded by the DMRC with a citation and a cash award.
