The police were deployed to avert any untoward incident Chitradurga: After weeks of speculation, Murugharajendra Math sacked its administrator S.K. Basavarajan here on Friday. The matter had taken a serious turn in the past few days when speculations were rife that Mr. Basavarajan had allegedly misused funds of the institution and had not been discharging his duties properly. He had been working as administrator of the math for the past 16 years. Mr. Basavarajan is also a popular Janata Dal (Secular) leader, who had contested against MLA G.H. Tippareddy in the last Assembly election. Supporters gatheredOn Thursday, when news spread about his probable removal from the math, several of his supporters had gathered on the math premises. Sensing tension, the police deployed additional personnel to avert any untoward incident. The math officially announced the sacking of Mr. Basavarajan on Friday. UpsetMath seer Shivamurthy Murughaswamy, however, declined to comment on the issue stating that the math would make public relevant details at the appropriate time. However, sources close to the math said that the swamiji was upset over the functioning of Mr. Basavarajan. Though it has not taken any decision on the appointment of a new administrator, a press statement issued by the math said that H.S. Patel, brother of the former Chief Minister J.H. Patel had been appointed as secretary.
