CHENNAI: “Statistics helps to improve the credibility of an investigation … the use of statistics has achieved new dimensions with the growth of various new fields. For instance, statistics is very important in pharmacogenetics,” said G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT University.
Speaking at the inaugural of the ninth biennial conference of the International Biometric Society, Indian Region (IBS-IR), here on Thursday, he said that it was statistics that helped convince people about the necessity of carrying out projects especially in government circles.
H. Sridhara, president IBS-IR, said the conferences were held every year alternately at international and national levels.
He added that the Society had instituted lifetime achievement awards to honour members who had made outstanding contributions to the field of biometrics.
