To help students: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at the inaguration of HCL’s career development centre in Puducherry on Friday. — PUDUCHERRY: Chief Minister N. Rangasamy on Friday inaugurated HCL’s career development centre which will a three-month full-time and one-year part-time course to students . Mr. Rangasamy said being “industry-ready” and skilled is a must in the Information Technology sector. C.S. Dwivedi, Head of Manufacturing, HCL Infosystems, said the one-year course would be called HCL Certified Network Engineer Programme. It involved seven modules, 21 projects and 70 online tests as part of the academic curriculum. The company would also introduce short-term modular courses to enhance skills of working professionals, he said. The centre would provide placement support to students who excelled in academics and performed remarkably well. Such centres had been set up by HCL in more than 40 cities across the country, he said. S.T.M. Eswar, associate vice-president, HCL Infosystems, said that according to a study by Cisco-IDC, one third of companies were not able to fill their demand for networking professionals. Another study said that there was an estimated annual demand of around two lakh networking professionals in the country while the supply was only about 60 per cent of it.
