Against frequent power cuts: CPI activists staging a torchlight demonstration in Puducherry on Friday. —

PUDUCHERRY: Activists of the Communist Party of India (CPI) took out a torchlight demonstration here on Friday to highlight demands including action against frequent power interruption in the town and suburbs.

The town committee secretary of the CPI, B. Anand, accused the Electricity Department of imposing undeclared power cuts in the town and the villages, posing problems to the residents and farmers.

The protest was also aimed at demanding distribution of applications directly to the public so that they could avail themselves of the benefits offered by the government under various welfare schemes without hassles.
