Drainage line to be laid in Davangere

DAVANGERE: Work on laying of a drainage line along the Pune-Bangalore road in Davangere city will soon begin and if necessary the district administration will also take up road widening, Deputy Commissioner M.B. Dyaberi has said. He said that work on laying of the drainage line would be taken up under the Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns Scheme (UIDSSMT). A grant of Rs. 100 crore had been given for purpose. Roads, sewer lines, sewage treatment, construction of concrete and earthen roads and of nine overhead tanks are some of the projects to be undertaken under the scheme. Mr. Dyaberi said that there was no drainage system on the Pune-Bangalore road and that the administration felt it essential to create one.

Nine packages had been formulated and seven packages assigned to various agencies.

Two packages, for which no one had participated in the tender process, would be re-tendered, he said. The Union Government had sanctioned Rs. 22 crore to the Harihar City Municipality and Rs. 20 crore to Chennagiri town under the UIDSSMT scheme.
