This Day That Age
President Rajendra Prasad, at a colourful but solemn ceremony in New Delhi unveiled the Delhi War Memorial, erected in honour of 25,000 soldiers and airmen of the undivided Indian army who died in non-operational areas during the Second World War. The roll of Honour is contained in two volumes in Hindi placed in a bronze and glass casket, and enshrined in the massive entrance to the Delhi War Cemetery. A large and distinguished gathering, including members of the diplomatic corps, witnessed the smart turn-out of men forming the combined Indian armed forces guard of honour and those of the British contingent who had specially flown to Delhi to do honour to the memory of the soldiers and airmen of the Indian army who gave their lives during the last war.
