dated November 17, 1957: Tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai

The following is the tribute to Lala Lajpat Rai by S. Partap Singh Kairon, Chief Minister, Punjab: “On November 17 falls the death anniversary of the ‘Lion of the Punjab, Lala Lajpat Rai, who added lustre and glory to Punjab’s name by his martyrdom at the altar of the country’s freedom. Twenty nine years ago this great patriot passed away as a result of the lathi charge administered to him while he was leading an anti-Simon Commission procession at Lahore on the 30th October, 1928. His death created a vacuum in the political life of the State which has not been filled up till this day. Lala Lajpat Rai rose from humble beginnings, by sheer dint of ability and character, to the top-most place amongst the leaders of the country.”
