News Analysis
* The sixth paragraph in a report “Soomro, Prime Minister of caretaker government” (November 16, 2007, page 1) was: “Thursday was also the last day of President Musharraf’s first term in office. He told Associated Press in an interview that he hoped to be sworn in, as a civilian, to his second term, which he won through an election on October 6, at the end of November, when he expects a legal challenge to his eligibility as a candidate in the election.” A reader said it was confusing. The Special Correspondent clarifies that it should have been he hopes to be sworn in as a civilian president at the end of November when he expects a legal challenge to his election to be settled. * In a report “Shahrukh Khan sends reply” (November 16, 2007), the last paragraph was: “Dr. Salkar [general secretary of the National Organisation for Tobacco Eradication-India] said the legal adviser of Mr. Khan has, inter alia, stated in his reply that ICC is a private club which does not have a no-smoking zone and that the Hindustan Times function was a private function.” The Special Correspondent, Goa, clarifies that it was a reporting error and should have been CCI (Cricket Club of India). * “India bowling” was incorrectly mentioned twice in the scoreboard of the India-Pakistan fourth ODI at Gwalior. (The report was headlined “Sachin Tendulkar stars as Indian clinches series”, “Sport”, November 16, 2007.) It should have been “Pakistan bowling” in the second instance. * In an AFP report “Kallis and Amla pile on New Zealand’s misery” (“Sport”, November 11, 2007), it was incorrectly mentioned that Jacques Kallis matched his Test best score of 186. His best is 189 not out. The error was corrected for the city edition.
