20 players in joint lead

MANGALORE: Twenty players are in the joint lead with 2 points at the end of second round on the opening day of the state under-13 boys’ chess championship, which got underway here on Friday.

Those in the lead include rated players such as Nihal Manjunath, Adith Jagadish, Gahan M.G. and Navalgund Niranjan.

Shristi J. Shetty and Andria D’ Souza are in the joint lead with two points each at the end of second round in the state level under-13 chess championships for girls. While Shristi got the better of Vanessa D’ Souza, Andria defeated Chrisel Ann Pais to move into a joint lead.

The top 10-players from this meet will represent the state in the national level age-group chess championship to be held at New Delhi from December 14 to 22. — Staff Correspondent
