Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) may have gagged the Chairman of the Selection Committee, Dilip Vengsarkar, from airing his views to the media or writing newspaper columns, but he seems to have defied the order.
Vengsarkar is continuing to write a column Cover Drive in some newspapers, notably the Marathi daily Sakal, owned by the brother of BCCI President, Sharad Pawar.
The latest column appeared on Thursday.
Asked whether the ban on writing a newspaper column applied only to English language newspapers, a BCCI source said, “no, it applies to all the languages.”
Confirming that Vengsarkar has been asked not to write columns, the BCCI Secretary, Niranjan Shah, said, “he has been told not to write his column. If it is brought to our notice (that he’s still writing his column), we will look into it.” — PTI
