CLIPS helps primary school students improve language skills

Staff Reporter

Sangareddy: The Children Language Improvement Programme (CLIPS) being implemented in the district since 2005 under the Rajiv Vidya mission has improved skills of children studying in classes 1 to 5.

According to academic monitoring officer J. Vivekavardhan the percentage of students who could read, write, experiment and solve mathematics at the primary level rose from 49 per cent to 58.5 per cent and at the upper primary level 70 per cent of students acquired these skills. On the other hand the State average stood at 62 per cent. The same programme was implemented in 64,191 schools benefiting 38 lakh students studying in primary and upper primary schools all over the state.

CLAPS

The Vidya mission also began implementing the Children Learning Acceleration Programme for Sustainability (CLAPS) in all the government schools in the district after the success of CLIPS. This programme targets students from classes 1 to 7.

Programmes like Math Mela, Science Mela, reading and language festivals would be organised, he said. A community induction programme ‘Samuhika Aksharabhyasam’ was organised for those who joined schools for the first time in June.

The Rajiv Vidya mission also encourages children to express themselves through innovative methods like school post box and wall newspaper. They also get to participate in the school hygiene committee, sports committee, wall newspaper committee and library committee. He said teachers receive monthly training on these innovative methods.
