Kidnapped boy restored to parents

Correspondent

CUTTACK: Four-year-old Idbul Rehman alias Guddu, who was kidnapped from the city on Tuesday, was united with his family on Friday when the team of Cuttack police that had gone to West Bengal rescued the boy from the kidnappers on Thursday night.

While the kidnapper Nasser, an acquaintance of Guddu’s family, was still absconding , the police arrested Nasser’s younger brother Basser on the charge of abetment of the crime.

Basser was remanded in jail custody on Friday evening while Guddu, the only son of Latiffur Rehman and Sajida, was handed over to his parents at their Shelter Square house, the police said.

A three-member police team from Lalbagh police station led by Sub-Inspector K.S. Biswal had gone to Khargapur following a phone call made by the kidnapper to Guddu’s father demanding ransom.

“Our team raided the kidnapper’s house near Bagnan railway station in Howrah district and rescued the boy. While Nasser fled from the spot, his brother was apprehended,” said the Lalbagh police station inspector K.R. Swamy.

Basser was booked and remanded to jail under Section 364-A of the IPC while requisitions to arrest Nasser had been made to all the police stations in Howrah district of West Bengal, Mr. Swamy said.
