Rohtang Pass closed

Manali: With the onset of snowfall season, Rohtang Pass located at 13,050 feet above sea level in Lahaul-Spiti district has been closed for traffic, officials said on Friday.

The Rohtang Pass, which connects the district to Chamba’s Pangi-Killar and also to Leh-Ladakh, was closed from Thursday, deputy commissioner of Lahaul-Spiti A.S. Rathore said.

A notification in this regard has been circulated to all the departments including the tourism department asking them not to allow people to travel through the pass, he said. The notification also said that those still venturing in the area would do so on their own risk.

The administration’s notification came a day after voting was completed in tribal assembly seat of Lahaul-Spiti and Bharmour for which Rohtang Pass provided road connectivity.
