4,000 additional houses for workers to be built, says Delhi Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal

Plan to set up Knowledge Park, Expo City-cum-Convention Centre, Gems and Jewellery Park Computer software, cyber information centres included in household category industries

NEW DELHI: Nearly 23,000 industries have been granted alternate plots in conforming industrial areas and 4,000 additional houses for workers would soon be coming up in Bawana, Narela and Bhorgarh, Delhi Industries Minister Mangat Ram Singhal announced at the Delhi Day function at the India International Trade Fair here on Friday.

The Delhi Government, the Minister said, was also setting up a Knowledge Park, Expo City-cum-Convention Centre, Assaying–Hallmarking Centre and Gems and Jewellery Park, Fashion/Apparel Park and an Ecological Park in the city to promote high-tech, low energy intensive and non-polluting industries that can achieve optimum levels of production using less space and power.

To promote information technology industries, the Minister said computer software, data processing, desktop publishing and computer repairing and cyber information centres have been included in the list of household category industries which can be established in residential premises subject to their adhering to parameters prescribed for such industries in the Master Plan for Delhi-2021.

Speaking to media persons, Mr. Singhal said the scheme for conversion of industrial plots to freehold was in full swing and a total of 174 built-up industrial plots had been converted to freehold. He said original allottees or lessees are entitled to 40 per cent remission and conversion is allowed to the last power of attorney holder on payment of a surcharge of 33-1/3 per cent over and above the normal conversion charges.

For the convenience of the industry owners, he said, the conveyance deeds for conversion would be registered with the Sub-Registrar, Seelampur.

The Minister also pointed out that the scheme for conversion of flatted factories at Okhla Flatted Factories Complex from rental to hire-purchase basis had been implemented and a total of 110 flatted factories had so far been converted.

About relocation of industries, the Industries Minister pointed out that 22,749 industries had already been allotted alternate industrial plots or flats in conforming industrial areas.

He said the notification for acquisition of about 475 hectare of land for development of industrial plots for relocating industries had been issued.

The State Government in consultation with the Centre had also decided to rehabilitate MRTS project-affected industrial units by allotting them alternate industrial plots in approved industrial areas at pre-determined rates.

The Minister said keeping in view the residential needs of the relocated industrial labour, the Delhi Government had also taken up housing schemes for industrial workers under the name of Rajiv Gandhi Housing Project at Bawana.

A total of 3,164 dwelling units have already been constructed on land measuring 23.5 acres. Another 4,000 dwelling units are proposed to be constructed in the Bawana and Narela industrial areas and at Bhorgarh where a new industrial area is being developed.

Moreover, to minimise the level of pollution in Delhi, Mr. Singhal said 10 Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) have been constructed.

Of these, nine have already been handed over for operation and maintenance to the respective CETP Societies.
