Shopkeepers asked to deposit the charges with 8 % interest “Any property found to be carrying out mixed use would be liable to pay a penalty” NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to allow functioning of all shopkeepers who have registered themselves but have not yet deposited conversion charges for mixed land use or commercial use. They have now been asked to deposit the charges with 8 per cent interest per annum on annual conversion charges. BenefitsIn a statement on Friday, MCD Standing Committee Chairman Vijender Gupta said this decision would have far-reaching benefits for nearly 3 lakh shopkeepers who had got themselves registered but were unable to pay conversion charges. “Even now, a great number of shopkeepers have not deposited their instalments in time. Since their fate was hanging in the balance we have decided to modify the policy,” he added. The civic body has also decided that any property found to be carrying out mixed use without prior registration would be liable to pay a penalty amounting to ten times the annual conversion charges. “We will start receiving payments with 8 per cent interest by next week. A public notice to this effect will be published shortly in newspapers. As per the notification of the Central Government, conversion charges were to be deposited by June 30 this year. Later this date was extended up to August 16,” said Mr. Gupta. Registration chargeAccording to Mr. Gupta, in case a residential premises is already under mixed use or intended to be put to mixed use, the owner of the plot would be required to declare mixed use by filling up a form and depositing it with the MCD. A one-time registration charge will have to be paid according to Central Government-approved rates.
