Court declines to lift stay high court round-up

Kochi: The Kerala High Court on Friday declined to vacate the stay given by it on the Central government order banning the import of palm oil through the Kochi port.

Though the counsel for the State government and the Coconut Development Board and others made an impassioned plea to lift the stay order, the court declined to do so.

They submitted that the unloading of the palm oil be stopped till Monday.

Justice V. Ramkumar adjourned to Monday the hearing on a petition challenging the Thiruvananthapuram Vigilance Court order dismissing a complaint seeking to register corruption cases against Forest Minister Benoy Viswom and Labour Minister P.K. Gurudasan in connection with the Merchiston Estate land deal.

The petition was filed by P. Rahim.
