Spirit of co-existence fast declining in India, says Satpal Maharaj

PROPAGATING TOLERENCE: Spiritual leader Satpal Maharaj addressing the Sadbhavna Sammelan at the Ramlila Ground in New Delhi on Friday.

NEW DELHI: Spiritual leader Satpal Maharaj on Friday emphasised the need for promoting tolerance and described it as a must for any democracy.

Inaugurating the Sadbhavna Sammelan at Ramlila Ground here, he said Indian culture had been the best example of a tolerant society that vibrated with “sadbhavna”.

However, Satpal Maharaj regretted that while India had made immense technological advances, the spirit of co-existence was fast declining in the country.

“The present Indian society is suffering from the virus of disintegrating forces of communal violence, casteism, terrorism and fanaticism, which are threatening the very social fabric and unity of the country,” he said.

The propagation of “sadbhavna”, the spiritual leader said, was the need of the hour.
