VISAKHAPTNAM: An eighteen-member team of two officers and 16 sailors of Eastern Naval Command ‘White Water Rafting Expedition’ was flagged off by Commodore K.N. Mohandas, Naval Officer-in-Charge (Andhra Pradesh) from INS Satvahana on Thursday. Surgeon Commander C.S. Saxena is leading the team.

The team is scheduled to establish its base camp at Devprayag in Chamoli district of Uttaranchal to undergo basic training that includes dummy drills for paddling, raft handling, survival drills and emergency life saving procedures.

After a three-day training and acclimatisation programme, they will start the expedition downstream to Rishikesh via Kodiyala and Shivpuri, covering a distance of nearly 150 km.

In the course of the expedition, the team members will be spreading awareness about the role and significance of the Indian Navy.
