Nothing funny about it Film Review

FM or Fun Aur Masti directed by Shekar Surya doesn’t live up to the promise of the potential that the title or at least the story content that the makers of ‘Angrez’ and ‘Hyderabad Nawabs’ came up with for the metropolitan audiences.

The earlier films had major talent, despite the fictional stories, the characters were grounded in reality that the Hyderabadi audiences came for a repeat viewing but here you could swear that you’re watching a tedious comical piece enlivened only by a cliched Mumaith Khan number and a dressy Qawwali.

Haphazard

There is new talent to be discovered here and but their confident performances (especially of the heroines) is neutralised by the lack of punch in dialogues. The writers fail here. It’s the same old city epithets, kicks and chase sequences and the film as a whole appears to have been slapped together in a haphazard way.

RK plays the inspector, and husband to Satya Krishnan but the hen-pecked and tame role doesn’t suit him a wee bit. Satya is comfy as the domineering wife and her Hyderabadi lingo sounds authentic. The story is about how two youths, one who can be passed off as a quack and another as a painter plot against a don, who hasn’t paid them for their services. This movie could be well-intentioned but it’s hard to imagine Telugu film industry moving ahead with such a dull piece of filmmaking, built on a foundation of clichés and lacking any real substance.

The scene especially where the don is implicated in a crime and is shown on television is boring. RK’s expressions on the telephone at the police station are bland. The don overacts. The music is okay but the sloppiness in the screenplay is evident.
