TELLING SCIENCE: School students explaining efficient water management practices to S. Rajakumar, Mayiladuturai MLA, at the science exhibition in Nagapattinam district on Wednesday. MAYILADUTURAI: Students from more than 70 schools showcased their talents by displaying nearly 210 exhibits at the Mayiladuturai educational district level science exhibition conducted at the DBTR National Higher Secondary School here on Wednesday. The exhibition was organised to create awareness among the people about conservation of energy, natural resources and water by adopting efficient management practices. Students from all the schools and local people witnessed the exhibition. Each school in Mayiladuturai educational district displayed three exhibits. S. Rajakumar, MLA, who inaugurated the exhibition, appreciated the efforts of the students in exhibiting their unique talents in the field of safety measures to be adopted at the time of natural disasters including earthquake, adopting efficient water management practices for agricultural crops, etc. U. Mangayarkarasi, District Educational Officer, Mayiladuturai, said that the science exhibition was being conducted in each educational district in the State to bring out the inner talents of the students and to create awareness among the people on various subjects including education, health care, science, natural disasters, water management, etc. Dr. K. Venkataramanan, Correspondent of DBTR National Higher Secondary School, who presided over the function, highlighted the importance of the science exhibition. Three exhibits – detecting earthquake by the students of Kittappa Municipal Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai, taking up low-cost agriculture by the students of St.Paul’s Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai and adopting efficient water management practices by the students of St.Joseph’s Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Mayiladuturai , won the first, second and third prizes respectively and were selected to take part in the State-level science exhibition to be held later. J. Lingarajan, Chairman of Mayiladuturai Municipality, distributed prizes to the winners of the three best exhibits. K. Rajendran, Headmaster of DBTR National Higher Secondary School, said that the exhibition evoked a good response and pointed out that students, teachers and headmasters from more than 100 schools visited the exhibition.
