Vijaya inks pact with District Rural Development Agency

Staff Reporter

The State Government has allocated Rs.500 crores for Dairy and Fishery Development for the year 2007

VISAKHAPATNAM: Andhra Pradesh Dairy Development Cooperative Federation Limited (Vijaya Brand) has entered into MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) with District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) for Mandal Mahila Samakhya, S. Rayavaram, for procurement of milk on Saturday.

Under the pilot project, APDDCF is collecting approximately 1000 litres of milk everyday from the Samakhyas and providing infrastructure for setting up the Bulk Cooling Units. It is making available the premises, building, weighing machines, display boards, fat testing machines, computers and printers for the units or centres.

Helping

DRDA is facilitating the entire project by imparting training to the Samakya members, and monitoring the process. According to the District Rural Development Authority (DRDA) Project Director J. Murali, “The DRDA is trying to develop both backward and forward linkages for stabilising the incomes of the Samakhya members.

The tie-up with the dairy will also bring about transparency, accountability, marketing and procurement of milk. The profits that Samakhya members earn during the peak season will help them tide over the lean season. It is expected that Samakhyas would break even.”

Expansion plans

The APDDCF has already begun transporting the milk from the centres to the factories and marketing the milk under its Vijaya brand. The dairy has further tied up with Supraja Dairy in Atchutapuram district for cooling, packaging and pasteurising the milk. It plans to expand further and procure 1500 litres of milk everyday from November 20.

The State Government had allocated Rs.500 crores for Dairy and Fishery Development for the year 2007. Out of this, Rs.110 crores have been sanctioned for the dairy development. This year, APDDCF is planning to expand the scale of pasteurised milk by developing its network further. It is planning to place 236 Bulk Milk Cooling Units in 2007-08 under Indira Kranti project.

Another tie-up

DRDA is planning another tie-up at Nakkapalli soon.
