‘Environment protection will be a thrust area’

Special Correspondent

Udhagamandalam: “I will accord high priority to protection of the environment,” said V.Anand Rao Patil, who took charge as the 110th Collector of the Nilgiris here on Friday.

He told newspersons that since the district was well known for its forest cover and scenic spots, environment protection would be a thrust area. Importance would also be given to keeping the towns, particularly Ooty clean. Adverting to Ooty’s reputation vis-À-vis tourism, he said that infrastructure would be developed.

Pointing out that the bad condition of roads here was a source of concern, he said that efforts would be made to expedite repairs works without compromising on quality.

Novel schemes like the ‘Your Government at Your Doorstep’ programme introduced by the erstwhile Nilgiris Collector Santosh K.Misra would be continued.
