Merchant in second spot

CHENNAI: India’s Yasin Merchant continued his good show with another win, his sixth in a row in Group ‘H’ of the men’s event in the World snooker championship in Thailand.

Merchant’s latest win was over Mulner Berhard of Austria. He won 4-1 (84-1, 53-82, 59-19, 73-14, 69-21) to take the second spot in the league behind China’s Hang Li, according to information received here. Meanwhile, former National champion Manan Chandra edged out Australia’s Aaron Mahoney 4-3 in Group ‘G.’ Manan won 62-10, 70-1, 49-56, 15-66, 48-70, 53-43, 70-12.

In the women’s section Anuja Chandra suffered her second loss in four outings in Group ‘C.’ She lost to France’s Angelique Vialard 39-63, 62-35, 7-70, 46-45, 69-38.

In the Masters event, Chennai’s S.A. Saleem slipped to defeat against Israel’s Yakov Shashusvili after being two frames up in a Group ‘D’ league match. Yakov won 23-55, 37-68, 65-44, 56-49, 65-17.
