KOCHI: Epilepsy is curable is the message that neurologists want to send across to the community on National Epilepsy Day on Saturday. B. Rajendran, president of the association’s local branch, says very few people reveal that they have epilepsy for fear of the social stigma attached to the disease. The patient should be made to feel comfortable by assuring him that the problem can be cured. Generalised epilepsy conditions are sudden bout of fits. However, there are other types that are more subtle in their manifestation, said Dr. Rajendran. Only a proper diagnosis can give the right answers. In an awareness programme, the Kochi branch of the Indian Epilepsy Association recently conducted an essay competition in schools called ‘What I know about Epilepsy.’ Prizes for the same will be given away at a programme on Epilepsy Day at IMA Hall, Warriam Road, on Saturday.
