Fish workers’ protest

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Swatantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation has protested against the casual manner in which the authorities are handling the issue of kerosene for the fisheries sector.

T. Peter, the State president of the organisation, said in a statement here on Friday that even though the authorities had initially sanctioned 500 litres of kerosene on permit basis for the sector, it was reduced in stages to 145 litres.

The distribution of the kerosene had been suspended with the authorities deciding that it kerosene would be supplied to new permit holders only in January.

The decision was encouraging blackmarketeers, he said. He asked the authorities to start supplying kerosene to all permit holders from this month.
