Meeting discusses steps to expedite investigation of cases Police officers asked to take action as suggested by the Law Department BANGALORE: The Lokayukta police has decided to act tough against officials who turn hostile in cases instituted against their counterparts charged with misappropriation and amassing of wealth. Such officials will have to face civil or criminal action for giving false evidence before the courts. This was among the several decisions taken during the meeting of police officers, prosecutors and law officers of Lokayukta on Friday. The meeting was attended by Lokayukta N. Santosh Hegde, Upa Lokayukta G. Patri Basavana Goud and Additional Director-General of Police (Lokayukta) R.K. Datta. Officials from the Lokayukta’s technical wing also participated in it. During the meeting, the police officers were asked to take action against the witnesses, who were mainly government officials. Mr. Datta asked the police officers to take action as suggested by the Law Department. Superintendents and deputy superintendents of police have been asked not only to pursue the prosecution of cases booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, but also report about the action taken against witnesses turning hostile. The meeting also brought out measures that would not only expedite the investigation of cases but also bring in qualitative improvement. The newly appointed prosecutors of Lokayukta sought better cooperation from the investigating officers. The meeting also discussed ways to systematise the role played by Lokayukta police officers as the representatives of Lokayukta in the districts and taluks. Grievance redressalThe Lokayukta police officers have been asked to meet people in taluks every month and redress grievances. Mr. Datta will be reviewing the work of the officers, including the types of grievances received and the ways in which it was redressed.
