A 35-year-old male elephant was electrocuted in Madihalli village in Alur taluk near Hassan on Saturday. HASSAN: A 35 -year-old male elephant died owing to electrocution in Madihalli village in Alur taluk, about 70 km from Hassan on Saturday. The incident occurred near Dodda Betta, where elephants live in large numbers. In order to protect their crops, farmers had fenced their lands with electric wiring. Had they used solar light and passed electric power through the wiring, it may have produced mild current enough to scare animals passing through. But, farmers in their enthusiasm used regular current, resulting in the electrocution of the animal. When presspersons visited the spot, the landowner had already removed the wires.
