Newly formed samiti to press for Kudachi-Raichur railway line

Staff Correspondent

BIJAPUR: The newly formed Mudhol Taluk Railway Horata Samiti has decided to launch a sustained campaign to realise the long-pending Kudachi-Raichur railway line via Jamkhandi, Mudhol and Bagalkot.

In a meeting held at Mudhol town on Friday, president of Bagalkot Gadag Broadgauge Horata Samiti Kutbuddin Khazi formally launched the samiti headed by G.C. Chiniwal, a Mudhol-based social activist. Mr. Khazi said the proposal had been pending for many decades. Mr. Khazi said that if the project was implemented it would boost the commercial and industrial activities of the region. Moreover, it would emerge as a vital point for transportation of iron ore to the West coast harbours. The MPs from the region should raise the issue in Parliament, he added. The meeting decided to take a delegation to Delhi and to organise series of agitations in the coming days to press for their demand. Committee members Gururaj Katti, Balaram Naik, Satish Bandivaddar and others spoke.
