HUBLI: Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the previous Government had sanctioned Rs. 10 lakh for bringing out comprehensive volumes of works of writer D.S. Karki, and the publication is in progress. He was speaking after presenting D.S. Karki memorial awards on the occasion of Karki’s birth centenary celebration here on Thursday. Mr. Shettar promised that he would make efforts to get financial assistance to construct a Sahitya Bhavan in memory of Karki. Pralhad Joshi, MP, said Karki’s contribution to the unification of Karnataka through his poetry was memorable. He said he would release Rs. 10 lakh for the Sahitya Bhavan from MP’s fund. Recalling his association with Karki, poet Channaveer Kanavi regretted that although the number of writers and poets had increased over a period of time, healthy interactions and exchange of ideas among them had dwindled. “D.S. Karki Kaavya Prashasti” was presented to Na. Mogasale for his poetry collection “Ihaparada Kola”. It was presented to Vibha posthumously for her poetry collection “Jeeva Miditada Saddu”. The souvenir to mark the birth centenary of Karki “Sharana Chetana” and the poetry collection by the writer’s children “Tananatom” were released.
