BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday wrote yet another letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh raising objections to the non-consultation of the mineral-bearing States by the Centre before finalisation of the national mineral policy. Pointing out that the proposed policy had been finalised and placed for approval of the Union Cabinet, Mr. Patnaik said it was unfortunate that the demands of the mineral-bearing States were not taken into consideration despite these States submitting a joint memorandum and writing letters raising various issues. Mr. Patnaik had taken the lead in bringing together the States of Orissa, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Karnataka and Rajasthan to highlight their grievances to ensure that they get the right benefits by the formulation of the national mineral policy on the basis of the Hoda Committee recommendations. Since the economy of these States was likely to be affected by the new mineral policy, the Centre’s attitude on the whole matter appeared to be against the federal norms, Mr. Patnaik said in the letter.
