Submission of age proof mandatory

Final electoral rolls will be published on Jan. 10


Kakinada: The Election Commission has made submission of documentary proof from school and college records mandatory for registration of boys and girls aged between 18 and 20 as voters. Otherwise, any one of the parents has to file affidavits on behalf of their children. District Collector M Subramanyam stated this at a meeting of political parties on the revision of electoral rolls.

Preparatory work

The preparatory work (integration of supplementaries with the mother rolls) has already been completed in all but one (P.Gannavaram) of the 21 constituencies.

The draft rolls will be published on Nov 19 and the filing of objections and claims will be received from Nov.19 to Dec 3.

Special campaign meetings will be conducted on Nov 25 and Dec 2.

It will be followed by disposal of claims and objections from Dec 4 to Jan 3, 2008. The final electoral rolls will be published on Jan 10.

The District Collector said applications for inclusion in the voters lists, will not be accepted in bulk, when political parties and residents’ welfare associations came with such requests.

Further, the Collector said the number of voters as on date stood at 32,71,044, including 16,14,774 men and 16,56,270 women. It is likely to go up to about 36 lakhs if the projected population is 54 lakhs (the district population as per 2001 Census was nearly 49 lakhs).

Telugu Desam Party State secretary Y Ravi sought the process of revision of electoral rolls to be expedited and done in a transparent manner.

Burugupudi MLA (Congresss) Chitturi Ravindra, CPI and CPM city secretaries T Madhu and Ch Ajay Kumar and BJP leader G Udayabhanoji Rao were present
